Release Day: Dance With Me by A.M. Heath

Dancers Banner with date

It’s FINALLY here! I always spend some time on the morning of release day to reflect on the journey. I don’t think I can sum it up any better than the post I shared on Facebook this morning, so I’ll copy again here.

I have tried all morning to put into words how I feel on release day. But I have no words; only gratitude.
Dance With Me has been a story that I fell in love with from the very start. I am beyond honored to be allowed to pen this story, and my heart is overflowing to finally be able to send it out into the world.
I’m supposed to give a sales pitch about how and where you can buy your copy, but I think you know by now where to get it. Instead, I only want to say thank you.
Unless you’ve walked the road of publication, you can’t know what goes into each novel. And unless the author publishes Christian Fiction, they can’t know the extra dose of spiritual warfare that goes on behind each story. But through it all, Christ has done what He promised to do. He was my comfort on the hard days. He was the source of my fuel and inspiration on the good days. He enabled me to do something I enjoy, and, more than that, He allowed me to pen my personal favorite story. He equipped me to weave in the powerful message of faith that will glorify Him as He sees fit. I’ll end with the dedication note:
Without You nothing would be possible and everything would be meaningless.

I know in the Facebook post, I mentioned that I wasn’t going to give a sales pitch … 😉 but this post IS a sales pitch, so here we go.
You can pick up your copy in paperback and ebook on Amazon. You can visit it on Goodreads. But there’s more!

In celebration of the release, there’s a blog tour going on this week and a giveaway. PLUS I have a sale going on for my Civil War novels. Keep scrolling for all the details and links.

Dance 2 FWill a new partnership tear their worlds apart … or will it be the piece they never knew was missing?

In 1959, Arleen Thatcher and Neil Fox are fierce competitors on the dance floor, so they’re the least likely pair to enter a televised competition together. But when rivaling studio owners decide to team up, the two find a partnership they never thought possible.
Arleen’s reputation around town is reason enough for Neil to keep his distance from his new partner. But as Neil gets to know Arleen, he discovers a side of her few others have seen, one of dark family secrets and carefully-constructed facades.
God’s plan for their partnership may involve more than a single dance; it may be the key to the healing Arleen so desperately needs.

The Art of Love series is compiled of stand-alone novels where the characters tell their own stories and love means so much more than passion.

A.W. Sale

And last, but certainly not least, this week marks the anniversary of Lee’s surrender to Grant at Appomattox, Virginia. I was able to incorporate just a glimpse of this moment in my second novel, In the Shadow of Thy Wings. This remains one of my favorite moments in history, which is why I’m celebrating with a Civil War book sale. You snatch up your copies from Amazon and if you’d like to dig into the surrender at Appomattox, I invite you to visit the blog series I hosted during the 150th anniversary. I broke down the moments piece by piece then wrapped it up with 5 photo albums from my trip to Appomattox during the 150th anniversary.

Dance With Me: Companion Dance Videos to Accompany the Novel

I’m putting together a little something extra for the readers. This is not a spoiler. This post is meant to be a companion to my novel Dance With Me.
You can view these videos before, during, or after you read the book. I hope you enjoy!

*Note: Ballroom dancing can, at times, be rather steamy. I worked to bring you videos that showed off the elements of the dance but stayed low on the “steam meter.” It was important to me that my readers feel comfortable reading or viewing anything that I post. While I could never promise that no one would be offended, I feel comfortable saying that you can view these videos with confidence.

Ballroom dancing in 1959 had looked a bit different. Just take a look at those dresses! There are a couple of places in the novel where Neil mentions Arleen’s poofy dress, and he would have been seeing something along these lines.

THE JIVE:

The jive was something that I wanted to highlight because it’s iconic to the period. In reality, in terms of competitive ballroom dancing, the jive wasn’t included. Yet. But I felt that the book couldn’t be complete without it so I chose to include it.

The video above is a short crash-course into the jive. It explains the rock step (which is mentioned by name in the novel) and it highlights the various handholds. It’s 3.5 minutes well spent.

Below are two full routines for your viewing pleasure. The first one is to “Jailhouse Rock” and the second one features the “theme” song of the novel, “Great Balls of Fire.”

THE WALTZ:

The waltz is probably the most recognizable dance, but I still want to share some videos with you.
Above is a short beginners’ look at the waltz. It showcases the iconic square circles.

And here is a full routine to enjoy. These two aren’t professionals but they did a great job and I loved the song since it’s on the Dance With Me playlist.

THE QUICKSTEP:

The quickstep is probably one of my absolute favorites. It’s elegant similar to the waltz, but it’s fast paced like the jive. Before and during the 1950s, the quickstep was a simplistic dance. But there was one couple in particular who began to shake things up a bit and it would soon become the standard. Once again, I hit the fast forward button on history and allowed Neil and Arleen to dance the faster version even though it was just a tad early.

The chasse is mentioned in the novel by name so you’ll want to see the video above and the basic breakdown of the most iconic moves making up the quickstep.

And below I have a full routine for you. I hope you find a new favorite style of dance here and pick up on the elegance and fun that makes up the quickstep.

THE TANGO:

This is another dance that we often see used in movies, typically danced with two people who are at odds with one another.

Above you’ll find a slower breakdown of the dance. And below is a full routine. This one had inspired the lift featured in the book.

THE PASO DOBLE:

This one is similar to the tango in that it appears to be a fight between the dancers. The dance is actually taking place between a bull and a bullfighter. In the novel, Neil and Arleen put their paso doble together by incorporating battling dance moves and loads of passion. And like the tango, the paso doble is known for its passion and high energy. I’m sharing two full-length examples.

THE INSPIRATION:

The moment I saw this video, I wanted to tell the story of a pair of dancers who were still dancing together in their golden years and still bringing people to their feet.

I was already writing the first draft of Dance With Me when 2018’s Winter Olympics started. But I was struck by the chemistry between Tessa and Scott. While I didn’t create Neil and Arleen with them in mind, the two certainly nailed the sort of chemistry I envisioned between my characters.
Neil doesn’t favor Scott, but oddly enough Arleen favors Tessa a great deal.

Dancer Hiding

You can read Neil and Arleen’s story on April 8, 2019. It will be available on Amazon in ebook and paperback and FREE on Kindle Unlimited. It is available for pre-order today. You can also add it to your Goodreads list.

Cover Reveal: Art of Love Book 2 by A.M. Heath

Cover Tease Painter AD

Eeek! It’s finally time to share info about my upcoming novel with you. The Art of Love series is something different from me. Each of the novels in this series are 100% stand-alone, which means there will not be any crossover characters. This will allow readers to pick up the books in any order without conflict.
Art of Love is a series based on a similar theme. Each book will feature a different form of art. They have been so much fun to write. And they’ve been a blast to reread too!
The series kicks off with Dance With Me which releases 4/8/19. I’m currently working on revisions for the 2nd book in the series which is projected to release in fall of 2019. So … are you ready to learn more about this one?

Painted PNG

Official Description:

Getting over Grady was the hardest thing Olivia Jernigan ever had to do. Now, three years after his death and on the verge of marrying another, her plans come to a screeching halt when she receives a shocking wedding gift from her great aunt that may change everything—a picture painted by her deceased fiancé. Bent on discovering the truth, Olivia flees home to learn what really happened to the man she thought loved her, a man who was supposed to have died in the Korean War.

Grady Barnes woke up in a hospital room three years ago with no knowledge of his identity. The only memory to resurface was the image of a woman. A woman he can’t stop painting. Will these paintings be the key to helping him find his way home, and how can the woman in the painting affect the direction of his life?

Olivia and Grady have a history, but do they still have a future?
Or is their romance just a painted memory?

The Art of Love is a series compiled of stand-alone novels where the characters tell their own stories and love means so much more than passion.

I’ll be honest. I don’t know whether to sigh in awe or scream for joy. Lol Olivia and Grady share a beautiful love story like nothing I’ve ever written before. There is something so … pure here. I’ve said that about each of the books in this series. I think that’s one of the things they all have in common. And it’s why I’ve used that phrasing in the description and advertisements for the series: love means so much more than passion. Each of the stories involves a love that is so much deeper than your common whirl-wind romance. It’s deeper than the lustful expression of love that we commonly see today. I find myself standing back with readers on this one, just breathing in a sigh of awe at the devotion these characters show toward one another.
There is a third book planned in the series and it features an actress, but I’m not currently working on it so there will be a long gap before the series is closed. But that’s one of the perks to writing a stand-alone series! 🙂 Here are some more details on the series:

You can mark Dance With Me on Goodreads. Painted Memories is now available on Goodreads as well.
The pre-order links are not available yet, but you can be sure not to miss the release of either novel by signing up for my newsletter. I’ll send you a link directly into your inbox the morning of the release, as well as an early preview of each novel two weeks before they release.

Introducing Upcoming Christian Fiction Series: The Art of Love by A.M. Heath

I am so over the moon excited to introduce this new series with you. The concept for this series started with one stand-alone book. A month later, the Lord inspired yet another stand-alone novel. As I typed up the notes concerning both novels, I couldn’t help but notice some similarities. With that in mind, I sought out to craft a third novel and create a series of stand-alone stories brought together based on the theme and similar settings.

Art of Love promo

Each book is primarily set in the 1950’s and told through the 1st person narrative. So far, the set includes an actress, painter, and a pair of dancers.
First up are Arleen Thatcher and Neil Fox, professional ballroom dancers from the small town of Marlow, TN in the year 1959. These two are fierce competitors, turned partners. Hear their story of how God used their unlikely partnership to bring about something truly beautiful for His glory in Dance With Me

Dance 2 F

I had 3 novels on my desk when this story just ran away with me. I kept it on the backburner and wrote here and there as time and inspiration allowed. Best case scenario, I was expecting to have this one ready to release in 2020. But the Lord saw fit to change my direction. Within 2 days, I put in 18,000 words and finished the first draft. And just like that, Dance With Me was suddenly brought up as a possible Spring 2019 release. That’s a full year earlier than I thought possible. I’m thrilled to be telling this story. But I’m also excited to see what the Lord has in store for it as we move forward. You can keep track of Dance With Me and the Art of Love series, as well as anything else on my desk, by following me here on the blog or on my Facebook page.
